Pope calls Ukraine and Russia for negotiations on Christmas
Pope Francis addressed Russia and Ukraine on Christmas Day on Wednesday, December 25. He called on the parties to negotiate about the end of the war.
This was reported by Reuters.
Negotiations about the end of the war
The Pope mentioned the war in Ukraine during his Christmas speech and called on the parties to "have the courage necessary to open the door for negotiations". He noted that the military conflict has already taken away many lives.
"Let the sound of weapons fall silent in war-torn Ukraine!" Francis said.
He added that it is worth showing "gestures of dialogue and encounter to achieve a fair and long-lasting peace".
It should be recalled that on December 15, the Pope prayed for "the long-awaited peace for the two nations," referring to the war in Ukraine. He called Ukrainians and Russians "brothers".
The Independent previously reported that the newly elected US President Donald Trump could form a political alliance with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and Pope Francis to broker a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia.
