Today, on January 20, Donald Trump will be inaugurated in the United States. For the first time in 40 years, the inauguration ceremony of the US President will be moved indoors. The reason for this change is the weather.

Novyny.LIVE will broadcast Trump’s inauguration in real time on January 20 at 19:00 Kyiv time.

Donald Trump’s inauguration program has been updated

Today, Donald Trump will officially become the 47th President of the United States of America. This will be the second time the politician has held this position.

Initially, it was planned that the inauguration of the newly elected President of the United States would traditionally take place in front of the US Capitol, but the program has changed. Now, Donald Trump’s inauguration will take place inside the Congressional complex. As explained by the newly elected US President, he personally ordered the ceremony to be held inside because of the extreme cold.

The US presidential inauguration will be held indoors for the first time in 40 years. The last time the ceremony was moved indoors due to severe frost was in 1985 when Ronald Reagan took the oath of office. Back then, the thermometer dropped to -29°C. For comparison, on the day of Trump's inauguration this year, the temperature in Washington is expected to be around -7°C.

Supporters will be able to watch Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony on screens in the Capital One Arena. This is a professional basketball and hockey arena in the center of Washington, D.C., which can accommodate 20,000 people. Trump said his presidential parade would be moved there. However, it was not yet clear how this would be organized at the sports ground.

Donald Trump will take the oath of office under the leadership of Chief Justice of the United States John Roberts at 12:00 am EST (19:00 pm Kyiv time). Afterward, Trump will deliver his inaugural address.

At least 18 inaugural celebrations will be held to mark the new president's inauguration, and Trump is expected to attend three of them. In particular, a reception for billionaire Republican donors will be organized after the inauguration.

Expenses for Donald Trump’s inauguration

Donald Trump’s inaugural Committee is funding the official events dedicated to the swearing-in of the new President of the United States. However, the oath ceremony at the Capitol will be held at the expense of taxpayers. In addition, several well-known American entrepreneurs have promised to donate $1 million each to the Committee.

This year, Donald Trump has raised more than $170 million for the inauguration ceremony. This is a record amount. For comparison, in 2017, when Trump was first elected President of the United States, the committee raised $106.7 million.

Who will attend the inauguration of the new US President

The President of Argentina, Javier Milei, will attend the inauguration of Donald Trump. He is a strong supporter of the newly elected leader of the country. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni is also likely to attend. Trump also invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to the inauguration, but he will not attend, instead, his envoy, Vice President Han Zheng, will attend the ceremony. Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg will also attend the inauguration.

Famous stars will also take part in the event. In particular, American singer Carrie Underwood will perform America the Beautiful together with the choir of the Armed Forces and the US Naval Academy. The famous Village People band will also perform. Trump chose their hit song YMCA for his election campaign and has danced to it many times. Country musician Lee Greenwood will also take part in the events. The US national anthem is to be performed by opera singer Christopher McKeefe.

Security measures during Donald Trump’s inauguration

Special attention will be paid to security measures in Washington D.C. on January 20. Local police will be significantly strengthened. Thus, about 4,000 officers from across the country will be deployed to help up to 1,000 law enforcement officers in the District of Columbia.

The US Intelligence Service explains these measures by the fact that there may be provocations on the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration. It is assumed that those who disagree with Trump's inauguration may see 20 January as the last hope to "change the election results". In total, about 25,000 police and military personnel will be ensuring security.

Trump’s first executive orders after the inauguration

As previously reported by sources close to the newly elected President of the United States, Trump is going to sign a series of executive orders and directives on his first day. We are talking about more than 100 documents.

The new executive orders of Trump will likely be aimed at giving immigration officers more freedom to arrest migrants. In addition, Trump is likely to send more troops to the US-Mexico border and resume construction of the border wall.

The executive orders that Trump is expected to sign on his first day in office will include a push to increase energy production. This will show compliance with the statements made in Trump’s election campaign.

In addition, the newly elected President of the United States is likely to sign pardons. We are talking about those convicted of participating in the attack on the US Capitol on January 6, 2021.

As a reminder, according to media reports, the US wants to increase sanctions pressure on Russia and Iran. The team of the newly elected President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, is already working on this.

Andrii Yermak claimed that the meeting between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy would take place soon. He is convinced that this will happen after the inauguration of the new head of the White House.
