Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy presented the Victory Plan at a meeting of the European Council in Brussels. Representatives of NATO countries, in particular, the Defense Ministers of Latvia, Finland and the United Kingdom, expressed their support for Ukraine.

This was reported by a correspondent of Novyny.LIVE, who attended a press conference in Brussels on Thursday, October 17.

Latvia's position on Ukraine's membership in NATO

Latvian Defense Minister Andris Sprūds emphasized that supporting Ukraine now is critically important for the future security of Europe.

"We support the Victory Plan for Ukraine and believe that Ukraine must have a victory over a large country. This is important for all of us. We are talking about broader consequences," the Minister said.

He added that if we do not support Ukraine now, the price in the future will be higher.

Sprūds emphasized that Latvia supports Ukraine's Victory Plan and its membership in NATO. According to him, Ukraine should be allowed to use the provided weapons to strike targets in Russia.

"Latvia supported Ukraine's membership in NATO, but at the very end it is about 32 NATO members, who also have to unanimously agree," the Latvian Defense Minister noted.

What do people in Finland think about this

Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen stated at a meeting of NATO ministers that NATO's defense industry does not have time to produce the necessary amount of weapons to support Ukraine.

"The key problems in supporting Ukraine are the defense industry and NATO's pace, what can we do to build up the defense industry to give more weapons and ammunition to Ukraine," Häkkänen noted.

He also mentioned that the conflict in the Middle East could distract the US, as it is forced to distribute its defense resources between Ukraine and Israel.

Position of the UK

The Defense Minister of the UK John Healey also emphasized the importance of strengthening support for Ukraine in the near future. He emphasized that Europe's security begins with Ukraine, which is fighting for all the values that NATO protects.

"We, as supporters of Ukraine, must do everything in our power: to strengthen our support in the coming weeks and put more pressure on Russia. Our duty is to be with Ukraine as long as necessary," the Minister emphasized.

It should be recalled that during the European Council meeting in Brussels, Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine needs the earliest possible allocation of 35 billion euros from frozen Russian assets.

We wrote that in Brussels the Ukrainian President met with the President of the European Council Charles Michel. They discussed the Victory Plan and the EU's active participation in its implementation.

Zelenskyy also announced for the first time that the Victory Plan for Ukraine contains not only open, but also secret points.
