Foreign diplomats sign joint communiqué in Kyiv — details
Kyiv hosted the first ministerial meeting in the Ukraine — Southeast Europe format. The meeting was chaired by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
This was reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Friday, January 17.
What was the agenda of the ministerial meeting
Diplomats from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Slovenia, Turkey, Croatia, and Montenegro came to the Ukrainian capital to discuss opportunities to strengthen cooperation and jointly move forward on the path of European integration. They also discussed support for Ukraine in countering Russian aggression.
"This is a very important ministerial meeting that develops the Ukraine — Southeast Europe format, implements the agreements of our leaders, and deepens cooperation between our countries for the sake of security, peace and justice in Europe," said Andrii Sybiha.
As a result of the meeting, the diplomats adopted a joint communiqué that supports Ukraine's territorial integrity and defense potential. The document also emphasizes the need for a just peace, as well as the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine".
In addition, the diplomats agreed to cooperate on the integration of Ukraine and the Western Balkans into the EU. The EU member states said that they are ready to share their experience.
"All of us, the countries that are on the way to joining the European Union, are not competitors, but like-minded people who seek to contribute to strengthening the security and stability of Europe through the EU enlargement," said Andrii Sybiha.
As a reminder, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga said that sanctions against Russia are working. According to the official, Russia gets the negative effects of the restrictions.
Andrii Sybiha also spoke about possible negotiations with Russia. He said that Ukraine adheres to the principle of not talking directly to Putin.
