Ukraine strengthens relations with NATO — what about "Ramstein"
Ukraine continues to strengthen relations with NATO, which contributes to further coordination in the provision of military assistance. This process is being integrated into the existing mechanisms, in particular in the "Ramstein" format, which currently operates under the leadership of the United States.
This was announced by the Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andriy Sybiha at a joint briefing with the Head of the Foreign Ministry of Australia Penny Wong.
Will "Ramstein" be transferred to NATO leadership
When asked about the possibility of transferring leadership in the "Ramstein" format from the United States to NATO, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine noted that this mechanism was created in the first months of Russia's full-scale invasion to ensure stable supplies of weapons to Ukraine.
He emphasized that the "Ramstein" format has proven itself as an effective tool that allows allies to coordinate their actions for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities.
"We are now reaching a level of relations with NATO, on the path to membership in the Alliance, which will naturally develop into increased coordination. Therefore, these are integral processes related to Ukraine's further progress on the path to NATO membership, to the realization of our Euro-Atlantic aspirations," Sybiha said.
Let us recall that some countries have already expressed their positions on Ukraine's accession to the Alliance. France stated that it supports Ukraine's accession to NATO, and Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk said that he would facilitate this in every possible way.
In addition, yesterday, December 17, NATO officially took over the coordination on the distribution and provision of Western assistance to Ukraine.
