NSDC predicts when to expect massive Russian strikes on energy sector
Despite the fact that Russian troops are not currently shelling Ukraine's energy system, the authorities are preparing for possible massive attacks. They may begin with the beginning of the fall-winter period.
This was announced by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Oleksandr Lytvynenko, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
When Russians might attack the power system
"With the start of the heating season, we can expect massive Russian strikes on the energy sector," Lytvynenko said at the opening of the "Energy in Industry-2024" exhibition in Kyiv on October 16.
At the same time, he emphasized that during the war, Ukraine's energy sector has demonstrated its ability to implement innovative solutions, and despite everything, the enemy's attempts to destroy Ukraine's economy have not succeeded.
Recently, Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said that Ukraine would have electricity in winter, but there is a key condition.
In addition, the minister emphasized that Ukrainian energy facilities are more reliably protected from Russian strikes not by passive special equipment and facilities, but by active air defense systems. They can prevent the devastating consequences of Russian attacks.
Oleksandr Kharchenko, Director of the Center for Energy Studies, also explained how the energy system in Ukraine should be rebuilt after the war and what should be changed dramatically.
