Tribunal against Russia — Zelenskyy calls on the world to act
Russia continues to commit crimes against Ukraine. The world must not forget them and unite to ensure that Russia is punished. This includes the creation of a special tribunal.
This was stated by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Thursday, December 5.
Russia's crimes against Ukraine
According to Zelenskyy, the world is gradually forgetting even the most large-scale crimes of war. This needs to be changed immediately.
"They are forgotten at the political level. At the level of those who could make a decision or be active to fix everything," the President of Ukraine emphasized.
Zelenskyy also added that inaction or insufficient support from some countries could be perceived as weakness. According to the president, Ukraine has not yet succeeded in establishing a special tribunal to help punish Russian criminals.
"If Russia is allowed to do this to Ukrainians, it will be perceived as permission to do this to other nations, other people. We are still forced to actually fight for the creation of a special tribunal against Russia," Zelenskyy said.
He added that Russians are torturing and killing Ukrainians in captivity. According to the president, at least six mayors of Ukrainian cities and heads of communities have died in captivity. Recently, it became known that the head of Dniprorudne, Zaporizhzhia region, Yevhen Matvieiev, who was also captured by Russians, died.
"They are among thousands of Ukrainians who are innocent but have been in captivity for years. Not only since 2022, but also since 2014. We are doing everything to return them," Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President added that 3,767 Ukrainians have already been returned from Russian captivity. For this purpose, Ukraine engages mediators, seeks various negotiations, political and legal solutions. Zelensky called on all countries of the world to join in to ensure that deportations and abductions of children do not become common practice.
"It is a crime not only that so many of our people are being held captive and abused by Russia, but also that many in the world are still not making every effort to stop this crime, return people and punish Russia for everything it has brought with its war," the President of Ukraine added.
To recap, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Secretary General of the Council of Europe Alain Berset. During the meeting, they discussed the creation of a special tribunal to punish Russian criminals.
Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's planes and money were used to abduct Ukrainian children from the temporarily occupied territories.
