The US may lift sanctions of Russia for the sake of a peace agreement with Ukraine. However, Russian energy exports will be subject to a levy that will be used for reconstruction.

This was stated in the plan of US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg, as was written by CNN.

Details of the plan

In particular, Kellogg's plan includes freezing the front line and creating a demilitarized zone. Russia will be offered a partial easing of sanctions under the condition of negotiations, and their complete lifting will be possible only if an agreement is concluded that will satisfy Ukraine.

In addition, they want to impose a special levy on Russian energy exports that will be used for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

Kyiv, for its part, should seek the return of the occupied territories exclusively through diplomacy. At the same time, Kellogg notes that this will be possible only after a change of power in Russia.

It should be recalled that on November 27, the newly elected US President Donald Trump appointed a special representative for Ukraine — retired Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg.

Kellogg claimed in his first statement in office, that he would work to ensure peace through force.
