The US signs a contract with Boeing to produce bombs for Ukraine
The United States has signed a $6.9 billion contract with Boeing to supply small diameter bombs. The agreement provides for the supply of such bombs to Japan, Bulgaria and Ukraine.
This was reported by the Pentagon press service.
Bombs for Ukraine
It should be noted that the United States has ordered new batches of small diameter GBU-39/B bombs for its own Air Force and foreign customers.
The contract was signed with Boeing for a maximum amount of $6.9 billion and provides for the production and delivery of an indefinite number of bombs until approximately December 31, 2035.
Among the countries that will receive these precision-guided munitions under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program are Ukraine, Japan and Bulgaria.
In addition, the Pentagon has signed contracts totaling more than $33 billion with a number of companies to conduct research and development within the Pentagon's Information and Analysis Center.
Among the companies that received contracts are American Systems Corp., DCS Corp., Peraton Inc. and others. The work will be performed until 2027 at various locations specified in the individual orders.
What do we know about GBU-39/B bombs
The GBU-39/B Small Diameter Bomb is an American precision-guided bomb weighing 130 kilograms, with a diameter of approximately 190 mm and a length of about 1.8 meters. Its maximum range is up to 110 km when dropped from high altitude.
When diving toward the target from high altitude, thanks to its tungsten tip, it is capable of penetrating concrete bunkers. The detonation system allows for selecting either air burst or delayed detonation after impact before the bomb is dropped.
Recently, the U.S. announced a military aid package to Ukraine worth $375 million. It includes air-to-surface weapons, ammunition for rocket and artillery systems, armored vehicles, and anti-tank weapons.
Additionally, before the meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, U.S. President Joe Biden stated that Russia will not win this war. He also emphasized that the United States supports Ukraine now and will continue to do so in the future.
