U.S. deploys 80 thousand troops to deter Russia — Biden
The United States continues to cooperate with partners around the world in counterterrorism operations. About 80,000 U.S. troops are deployed in Europe to deter Russia's aggression.
This is stated in Biden's letter to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the Senate regarding the War Powers Report, which was released by the White House on Friday, December 6.
The US military is deterring Russian aggression
The report states that "in support of counterterrorism efforts, the United States continues to work with partners around the world".
"In this context, the United States has deployed forces to conduct counterterrorism operations, as well as to advise, assist, and accompany the security forces of individual foreign partners in counterterrorism operations," the letter says.
Biden said that about 80,000 U.S. troops are deployed in European NATO countries. This is done to support US allies and deter further Russian aggression.
"Approximately 80,000 United States military personnel are assigned or deployed to North Atlantic Treaty Organization countries in Europe, including to reassure our allies and deter further Russian aggression," the US president said in the letter.
As a reminder, the White House is developing a strategy to support Ukraine. It will include $20 billion in loans and new sanctions against Russia.
