The information that seven countries oppose Ukraine's invitation to join NATO is a rumor. The idea of joining the Alliance is supported by most member states.

This was stated by the presidential press secretary Serhiy Nikiforov, RBC-Ukraine reports.

Presidential Office responded to the article in Politico

Nykyforov noted that rumors about opponents are being spread by those who seek to create the impression that Ukraine's accession does not have support among NATO members.

According to him, the idea of inviting Ukraine is supported by the majority of NATO member states, and active advocacy work is being carried out with the others.

Nykyforov emphasized that the invitation to NATO is a key part of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Victory Plan and the path to a just peace.

"The invitation is the first point of the President of Ukraine's Victory Plan and a reliable path to a just and lasting peace. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has presented the plan to international partners, the Ukrainian parliament, and the public, including the media and civil society, and is consolidating their efforts to bring Ukraine closer to receiving an invitation to NATO," he stated.

What was discussed in the Politico article

According to Politico, citing four American officials and NATO diplomats, seven countries, including the United States and Germany, are reportedly against inviting Ukraine to join the Alliance. Other "opponents" mentioned include Hungary, Slovakia, Belgium, Slovenia, and Spain.

However, officials emphasize that the U.S. and Germany do not rule out Ukraine’s possible future accession to NATO.

Previously, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte assured that Ukraine’s future in the Alliance is already determined. He stated that Ukraine’s course toward NATO membership is irreversible.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is convinced that, in practice, Ukraine is already a member of the North Atlantic Alliance. He noted that Ukrainian soldiers are holding the frontlines with weapons supplied from all over the world.
