The Social Democratic Party of Germany has officially nominated Olaf Scholz as its candidate for chancellor in the upcoming federal elections. Party leaders note his experience and determination.

This was stated by the heads of the SDPG, Saskia Esken and Lars Klingbeil, as Tagesschau writes on Monday, November 25.

SDPG nominates Scholz as candidate for Chancellor of Germany

The Social Democratic Party of Germany has unanimously nominated Scholz as its candidate in the upcoming Bundestag elections. The decision should be approved during the party conference, which will be held on January 11.

The party leader Klingbeil announced a "purposeful decision" and also pointed out the lack of government experience of the candidate from the Christian Democratic Union, Friedrich Merz.

"Scholz is the right person for the position of chancellor with his principled and strong character," the SDPG co-leader Esken said.

The leader also noted a short, clear and combative election campaign that is expected ahead.

"It will be cold on the streets, but we have long reached the working temperature," Esken emphasized.

It should be recalled that the former ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk stated that Ukraine will receive long-range Taurus missiles from Germany if the CDU wins the early elections and Friedrich Merz becomes a Chancellor of Germany.

Previously, Polish President Andrzej Duda accused German Chancellor Olaf Scholz of trying to exclude Donald Trump from negotiations on the future of Ukraine.
