Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz spoke with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on Friday, November 15, for the first time in two years. He called on the Russian leader to end the war and withdraw troops from Ukraine.

Scholz's conversation with Putin

The conversation, which the parties did not officially report, "took place on Friday afternoon after lengthy preparation".

German Federal Government Spokesman Steffen Hebestreit said that Scholz "condemned Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and called on Putin to end it and withdraw troops".

"The Federal Chancellor insisted that Russia must be ready for negotiations with Ukraine in order to achieve a fair and long-lasting peace and stressed Germany's unwavering determination to support Ukraine in the peace process," the report said.

The German government noted that the Chancellor emphasized "Germany's unwavering determination to support Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression for as long as necessary".

Conversation with Zelenskyy

Hebestreit also recalled that the head of the German government had spoken with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier this week.

According to the spokesman, Scholz is planning another conversation with the Ukrainian President after talks with Putin.

"The Federal Chancellor spoke by phone with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy the day before and will do so after talks with the Russian president," Hebestreit said.

Previously, we reported that Scholz wants to resume talks with Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Previously, media reported that newly elected US President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
