US intelligence spots another attempt by Russian special services to interfere in elections — media
US intelligence believes that Russian intelligence services are behind the fake video that attempted to defame US vice presidential candidate Tim Walz. The video has been circulating on social network X for the past week.
This was reported by CNN on Tuesday, October 22.
Russia's interference in the US elections
According to CNN, citing U.S. intelligence, Russian intelligence services created and spread false online content aimed at discrediting the Democratic Party's vice-presidential candidate, Tim Walz.
A representative of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) stated that the video in question contained manipulated audio content and circulated on the social network X over the past week. The material exhibited "several signs of manipulation consistent with the influence tactics used by Russian actors".
This statement is based on recently obtained intelligence. Analysts reportedly spent several days analyzing the media content. Some posts sharing the fake content on X garnered hundreds of thousands of views and were amplified by "far-right individuals". This is evidence of Russia's ongoing efforts to maliciously influence the 2024 presidential election in favor of former U.S. President Donald Trump, who, according to U.S. intelligence assessments, is considered a preferred candidate by the Kremlin.
Political scientist and international relations expert Maksym Nesvitailov previously commented that, in the event of Donald Trump's defeat in the presidential election, his supporters might refuse to accept the results.
Earlier, Novyny.LIVE reported that Trump suggested deploying military personnel during the election, claiming it would be necessary to prevent unrest.
