NATO has already been coordinating assistance to Ukraine — Rutte
Commandership of NATO in Wiesbaden, Germany, has begun work on coordinating Western military assistance to Ukraine. Previously, this was handled by the command center for coordinating supplies and optimizing the delivery of military support to Ukraine.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced this, as Reuters reports on Wednesday, December 18.
Coordination of military assistance to Ukraine
"Commandership of NATO in Wiesbaden for providing security assistance and training for Ukraine is already working," Rutte said.
The headquarters of NATO's new mission in Ukraine, called "NATO Security Assistance and Training for Ukraine", is located at the US base Clay Barracks in the German city of Wiesbaden.
Reuters recalls that coordination of supplies was previously also discussed in the "Ramstein" format. Now, it will remain only a "political forum". At the same time, the NATO commandership in Wiesbaden will take on the implementation of the decisions made during the "Ramstein" meetings.
It should be recalled, that Rutte reported on the losses in the war in Ukraine, noting that since February 2022, the total number of dead and injured on both sides has exceeded one million people.
France also expressed support for Ukraine's invitation to NATO, but the consent of all Alliance member states is required for accession.
