U.S. President Donald Trump said he plans to discuss the situation with Russian President Vladimir Putin in the near future. In his response, Trump noted that Zelenskyy is seeking to reach an agreement, but Putin's position remains uncertain.

Donald Trump said this during a briefing with journalists.

Trump says Putin is destroying Russia by not agreeing to a truce

"Yes, but Zelenskyy tells me he wants to make a deal. I mean, he wants to make a deal. Putin wants to, or maybe not. I don't know. He has to make a deal. I think he is destroying Russia by not making a deal. Russia is going to have big problems: look at their economy, look at inflation," Trump said.

The US President also expressed his hope for a productive dialog with Putin. At the same time, he emphasized the effectiveness of economic pressure, recalling his experience with sanctions against Iran.

"I think the word "tariffs" is much better because they make our dollar stronger. I think tariffs are more effective. The sanctions against Iran have worked great: when I left office, Iran was completely broke, they had no money for Hamas or Hezbollah," said Trump.

As a reminder, Donald Trump has also spoken about the need for negotiations with Putin. The newly elected U.S. president also commented on his promise to end the war in Ukraine in 24 hours. Meanwhile, bookmakers are betting on how quickly Trump can fulfill his odious promise.
