Assad's defeat — Zelenskyy reacted to the events in Syria
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy reacted to the events in Syria. He stated that the Assad's regime fell not only due to the strength of the opposition.
The Head of State reported this via Telegram on Monday, December 9.
Zelenskyy's reaction to the events in Syria
According to the President, the events in Syria are a vivid example that explains why Ukraine needs unwavering support and confidence from partners. Zelenskyy noted that everyone sees the importance of Ukraine and the war.
"The Assad's regime fell not only due to the strength of the opposition. This also happened because there are not enough Russian troops there. Why? Because the entire combat-ready Russian army is on the territory of Ukraine. And this indicates that the entire army of this pseudo-empire is fighting against the Ukrainian people today," he emphasized.
According to him, the same thing is happening in Africa, because there were "Wagner" fighters. He emphasized that Ukraine knows how many "Wagner" fighters were killed during the war.
Zelenskyy noted that the Russian Federation wants its own regimes in Africa that would influence the African continent, and for this it used the fighters of the private military company.
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that this is why it is important now for all countries that value a world without war to understand this perspective — a lot is being decided here and now.
"The strength of Ukraine determines whether the Russian army is strong. Because if Ukraine falls, Putin will return to Syria to take revenge, and to Africa, and to many other regions that interest him. And it seems to me that this is the most important thing that everyone needs to understand: this unification around Ukrainian success is the common success of the world. Success that unites. And unity that gives success," Zelenskyy added.
As a reminder, on December 8, Syrian state television reported the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime. Thousands of citizens began returning to Syria.
In addition, the head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, expressed his opinion on the fall of the Assad's regime in Syria, emphasizing that a similar situation could occur in Russia.
