Poles threatened to block border again — what is the reason
Polish farmers have agreed to suspend the protest on the border with Ukraine until December 10. However, the protesters are threatening to resume the border blockade if their conditions are not met.
This was reported by the Polish agency PAP on Monday, November 25.
Polish farmers may block Ukrainian border again
As the publication notes, the protesters expect the Minister of Agriculture will respond to their demands by December 10. Otherwise, the Poles will block the border again.
"We will write down all our demands and submit them to the Minister of Agriculture. We hope that we will reach constructive solutions by December 10. And if the minister ignores us and comes only to make promises, we will block the road again, and then demand negotiations with Prime Minister Donald Tusk," the leader of the "Podkarpacka Oszukana Wieś" Roman Kondrów said.
It is noted that the day before, the Minister of Agriculture, Czesław Siekerski, met with the protesters who blocked the movement of freight transport through the checkpoint. He said that he would prepare a response to their demands by December 10.
Why are Polish farmers protesting
The Poles are demanding the suspension of the EU's free trade agreement with South American countries. Farmers fear that the lack of a reaction will lead to uncontrolled flows of agricultural products to Poland from countries that are part of the MERCOSUR organization.
In addition, Polish farmers are protesting against a new tax and the so-called chain law, which prohibits animal chaining and keeping them in cramped places. None of these points relate to Ukraine, but they want to block the Ukrainian border.
It should be recalled that during the protest, about twenty trucks were blocked in a queue at the Polish-Ukrainian border. These were trucks heading towards Ukraine.
On the morning of November 25, traffic jams were formed on the Odesa-Reni highway towards the Moldovan and Romanian borders. There were also queues at checkpoints in the Odesa region to cross the border.
