Orbán stated that Ukraine is trying to outsmart Hungary
Ukraine is creating problems with gas transit, trying to "outsmart" Hungary. However, Budapest knows how to avoid difficulties in the energy sector.
It was stated by the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán in an interview with the state radio, 24.hu reported on Friday, January 24.
Orbán wants sanctions against Russia lifted
Orbán has criticized the EU sanctions against Russia, saying they have cost Hungary €19 billion. He called on Brussels to ensure that Ukrainian gas routes are opened to supply energy to Central Europe.
"The Ukrainians are trying to deceive us," he stated, explaining that Kyiv was trying to manipulate gas supplies.
According to the Prime Minister, it was Ukraine’s actions that led to the increase in energy prices, which led to the rise in the price of petrol.
"If the Ukrainians had not played games, petrol, and energy prices would have been much lower," Orbán emphasized.
According to him, Hungary will be able to avoid these difficulties thanks to its cooperation with Serbia, as well as the southern energy supply route created by the government.
The Hungarian Prime Minister noted that the southern supply route meets the country’s energy needs and even allows it to help Slovakia. He also praised the work of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Péter Szijjártó, who had foreseen the need to create this route.
Orbán said that Hungary cannot support Ukraine if it blocks gas routes.
"If you want help, then open the gas routes," Orbán stated.
