"This is about twice as much as the five largest European countries combined. One thing is clear to us: Russia is the biggest threat to our security, and it will remain so for the foreseeable future," Pistorius said.
The minister also spoke in support of several defense bills. One of them is about prohibiting former German soldiers from working for foreign countries, such as Russia or China, without the permission of the Ministry of Defense.
"This has not happened before. The law is urgently needed. It will prevent highly qualified former servicemen of the German Armed Forces from being lured away with advantageous offers for their own purposes," Pistorius explained.
As a reminder, a Russian ship fired flares at a German helicopter. This happened in the Baltic Sea, when the Bundeswehr helicopter was carrying out a reconnaissance mission.
Russian General Valery Gerasimov secretly called the chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, Charles Brown. Security issues and the war in Ukraine were discussed during the conversation,
