Germany offers Ukraine a "neutral" status, similar to Finland, as an alternative to NATO membership. This idea is treated as a possible path to peace talks with Russia.

Politico reported this on Monday, November 4.

The issue of Ukraine's membership in NATO

The issue of a neutral Ukraine following the model of Finland during the Cold War, which was not part of NATO or the Warsaw Pact, is increasingly being discussed in Germany.

It is noted that this is the only way to convince Putin to hold peace talks. However, Finland itself, which recently joined NATO, is against such a scenario.

"It is not in our interests to restore any artificial spheres of interest. Finland's model of neutrality from the Cold War era belongs to a period of history that should have been freed from long ago," Finnish Ambassador Kai Sauer said to Berlin.

It should be recalled that Ukraine and Hungary are preparing a bilateral document aimed at overcoming the misunderstandings in relations. In particular, it concerns discussions on Ukraine's accession to NATO.

Previously, Presidential Press Secretary Serhiy Nykyforov stated that the idea of joining the Alliance is supported by the majority of member states.
