Uman welcomes Hasidim — Rosh Hashanah celebrations are in full swing
This year, Rosh Hashanah is celebrated in Uman from October 2 to 4. Pilgrims come to the Ukrainian city to celebrate the Jewish New Year at the grave of their spiritual mentor, Rabbi Nachman.
As of the morning of October 2, the city had already received more than 25 thousand pilgrims, and by the end of the holiday, up to 50 thousand Hasidim are expected in Uman.
Prices in the city are inflated these days, for example, ordinary mineral water costs one dollar, and sweet sodas two dollars. Locals also offer luggage transportation services that cost between $10 and $15.
Interestingly, there are special barbershops in the pilgrimage area where Hasidim have their haircuts done.
Correspondents report that presence of Ukrainian and Israeli law enforcement officers and rescuers has been increased to ensure public order and security in Uman. It is noted that the National Police calls on women to refrain from visiting the pilgrimage area today until 2:00 p.m.
As a reminder, information has been posted online about how much money the Jewish New Year brings to Uman, and what prices are in the city during Rosh Hashanah celebrations.
Previously, we reported that more than 30 thousand Hasidim came to Uman to celebrate Rosh Hashanah last year.
