Ukraine is building relations with Trump now — why
Ukraine is establishing cooperation with the future team of the newly elected US President Donald Trump. This is precisely why the country's delegation visited the United States.
This was stated by the head of the Presidential Office of Ukraine, Andriy Yermak, in an interview with "Suspilne" on Thursday, December 12.
Details of Andriy Yermak's visit to the United States
According to Yermak, the country's main diplomat is the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He explained that all trips and meetings are the fulfillment of functional duties of the head of the Presidential Office.
"Everything I do is carrying out his instructions, conveying his messages. This is what all my conversations and meetings are based on," Yermak said.
He also added that during the visit to the United States, the Ukrainian delegation began to establish connections with the future Trump administration. These were introductory meetings and a presentation of Ukraine's position. According to Yermak, it took the country a long time to build relations with the Biden team that came to power. Therefore, building relations with Trump is necessary now.
"Therefore, the consultations are being held even before the inauguration. This will allow Ukraine to start working on specific topics immediately after January 20. The main topic is ending the war, but on the terms of a fair peace and international law. And, I believe, on the terms of Ukraine," Yermak said.
As a reminder, the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, stated that Ukraine currently does not have sufficient strength to hold negotiations with Russia on ending the war on terms that would guarantee a stable peace.
Andriy Yermak also reported that Ukraine and the UK are close to concluding the "deal of the century". This was discussed during a meeting with Jonathan Powell, an Advisor to British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
