Fox News host calls Canada's annexation a "privilege"
Fox News host Jesse Watters has sparked a new wave of controversy with his statement about the possible annexation of Canada by the United States. In his show, he argued that the annexation of Canada is a "privilege" that "everyone in the world wants".
This statement was made on Fox News.
Fox News host does not oppose annexation of Canada
In a conversation with Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Jesse Watters tried to find out why Canadians are against this idea.
The host began the interview by asking why Doug Ford is against the annexation of Canada: "What is your problem with the United States taking over Canada?"
In response, the prime minister explained that Donald Trump, as a real estate person, can make such statements, but Canadians are not interested in becoming the 51st state of the United States.
Instead, the host said that "American citizenship is something that everybody wants" and expressed surprise at why he thought Canada was pushing back on the idea.
"I find it personally offensive, Prime Minister," the host said.
Doug Ford refused to be provoked. In response, he noted that Canadians are as proud of their independence as Americans are of theirs, and suggested that the focus should be on concluding a mutually beneficial trade agreement between the countries.
Watters also asked Ford whether he supported the idea of "joint ownership" of Greenland between the United States and Canada, given Trump's repeated statements about his desire to acquire the island. Ford categorically rejected this idea.
"Canada. At first I wanted it and tried to split it into two states. And then I realized that we'd basically be adding Montana for the Republicans, and electorally something like Texas for the Democrats, and I don't like that. But the fact that they don't want us to take them over makes me want to invade. I want to quench my imperialist thirst," said the Fox News host.
As a reminder, Donald Trump recently said that Canada should join the United States as a 51st state.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau later responded to this statement.
Despite this, Donald Trump did not stop and continues to provoke the community — he published a map of Canada in the colors of the US flag.
