The US unveils a bill that will "Make Greenland great again"
The United States has published the text of a bill that would allow Greenland to become part of the United States. The text was distributed among the co-authors of the law and is titled "Make the Greenland Great Again Act".
This was reported by Reuters.
How the U.S. wants to achieve the annexation of Greenland
According to the unofficial text of the bill, members of the Republican Party in the US House of Representatives are trying to gather support for an initiative to authorize negotiations on the acquisition of Greenland.
The key provision of the bill is to authorize the president to begin negotiations with Denmark on the acquisition of Greenland on January 20, i.e., from the moment the next president takes office.
The importance of this initiative lies in the fact that former President Donald Trump expressed a desire to include Greenland in the United States, not excluding the use of military or economic force to convince Denmark to transfer the territory, Reuters notes.
This initiative is of considerable interest because Greenland has been under Danish control for centuries as a semi-sovereign territory. Any change in its status would require a change in the Danish constitution. The Prime Minister of Greenland has repeatedly stated that the island is not for sale and that its inhabitants decide their own fate.
On January 7, US President-elect Donald Trump said that an agreement should be reached for Greenland to join the United States. He made the statement after his son visited the island with representatives of the Republican Party.
We also reported that the Prime Minister of Greenland, Mute Egede, commenting on Trump's statement, said that the islanders do not want to be Americans, but are open to deepening cooperation with Washington. According to him, Greenland should be for Greenlanders.
