The United States Department of Defense has confirmed for the first time the arrival of North Korean troops to the Russian Federation. At the same time, it was noted that it is unknown what purpose they are pursuing.

This was stated by the head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, during a press conference in Rome on Wednesday, October 23.

Austin emphasized that there is evidence that the North Korean troops are on the territory of the aggressor state. What they are going to do there, the head of the Pentagon does not know.

"There is evidence that there are North Korean troops in Russia. What exactly are they doing? It is left to see. These are things that we need to deal with," Austin noted.

Previously, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov reported on the arrival of the first North Korean troops in the Kursk region.

The specific tasks that the North Korean troops will carry out are not yet fully understood. There is an assumption that they will be involved in the protection of key facilities and strengthening of Russian positions in the Kursk direction.

We previously wrote that in addition to ground troops, North Korea sent fighter pilots to Russia who will take part in hostilities against Ukraine.

In addition, the head of the French Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot, stated that sending North Korean troops to Russia to participate in the war against Ukraine would lead to a new escalation of the conflict. In his opinion, Russia's war against Ukraine could spill over into Asia.
