Achievements of defense sector — Shmyhal summed up 2024
Ukraine passed 2024 with dignity, thanks to the defenders and all Ukrainians who bring our victory closer. The country has encouraging results in several areas of work.
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated this at the government meeting on Tuesday, December 31.
Development of the security and defense sector
As Shmyhal noted, more than half of the state budget expenditures were directed to defense in 2024. According to him, the capabilities of the Ukrainian defense complex increased sixfold thanks to investments by the state and the private sector.
"Over 800 state and private companies operate in the defense sector. More than a thousand weapons and hardware have been approved for use. Half of them are made in Ukraine. Domestic production accounts for over 96% in the drone segment. More than 1.2 million drones have been purchased through the "Army of Drones" project," Shmyhal noted.
He also emphasized that Ukraine produces more self-propelled artillery systems than any other country in the world. The missile program has also made significant progress. Ukrainian long-range weapons have been created.
Financial sustainability of Ukraine
All priority expenditures in 2024 were fully financed. As Shmyhal noted, $41.7 billion of international aid was attracted from partners.
"The EU Ukraine Facility program has been launched. For the first time in its history, Ukraine has undergone 6 reviews within one program with the IMF. We received almost $10 billion thanks to it," the Prime Minister noted.
Energy Restoration
Ukraine has launched a large-scale campaign to restore the energy sector. Over 1 billion euros in contributions from partners have been attracted to the Ukrainian Energy Support Fund.
"We have expanded the possibilities of importing electricity from Europe — 1.7 to 2.1 GW. This helps balance the energy system," Shmyhal noted.
In addition, Ukraine has implemented an energy support package for citizens and businesses. These include interest-free loans for individuals, loans for condominiums, housing and apartment complexes, for small and medium-sized businesses, and preferential loans for large entrepreneurs.
It should be reminded that the resource of local budgets should become larger next year. It is expected to grow to 328 billion hryvnias.
The IMF will provide Ukraine with a tranche of 1.1 billion dollars. Thanks to this assistance, it will be possible to finance a number of programs and activities.
