US court rules on Trump case involving porn star
A court in New York yesterday, December 16, refused to overturn a jury verdict that found Donald Trump guilty in a criminal case of falsifying campaign finance reports during his 2016 presidential campaign.
This was reported by the Financial Times.
The court did not overturn the decision on Trump
Judge Juan Merchant rejected the arguments of Trump's lawyers, who claimed that the Supreme Court's decision on the immunity of the president for actions within the scope of his official authority exempts the former president from liability. Trump's lawyers said that the immunity ruling should apply to the bribery case as well.
The prosecution, in turn, insisted that the crimes charged against Trump were committed before he was elected president.
"Trump is likely to appeal the decision and has called the criminal cases against him a politically motivated witch hunt," the publication said.
In May, Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records. In the process, the politician offered adult film actress Stormy Daniels $130,000 to keep her from talking about their relationship before the 2016 election. Trump categorically denies this connection.
Earlier, we wrote that the US court refused to close Trump's case on classified documents. It is about certain "boxes of documents" that the politician transported from the White House to his estate in Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
Also, US President-elect Donald Trump said that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy could attend his inauguration on January 20, 2025. But only if the latter wants to.
