Switzerland has joined five other European countries, including its neighbors France and Austria, which have also introduced a similar ban.

Violations can be punished with a fine of up to $1,143.

The law was supported by 51.2% of Swiss voters in March 2021.

Exceptions include covering the face for safety, weather, or health reasons. It is also allowed in artistic and entertainment events, as well as in advertising.

As a reminder, the Swiss government has banned the sale of ammunition to a Polish company after 645,000 Swiss-made rounds of ammunition ended up illegally in Ukraine.

Earlier, Switzerland deported three Ukrainians for serious crimes for the first time since the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion.
