U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has taken credit for achieving a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and the release of hostages. At a rally in Washington on Sunday, he said that this "could only happen as a result of our historic victory".

This was reported by CNN.

"This week, we reached a tremendous ceasefire agreement as a first step toward lasting peace in the Middle East. And this agreement could only have been reached as a result of our historic victory in November. I am pleased to report that (today — Ed.) the first hostages were released,"  Trump said.

The three released Israeli hostages (Romi Gonen, Doron Steinbrecher and Emily Damari) are the first of 33 to be released by Hamas and its allies over the next six weeks. All three are reportedly in good health and are being treated at a medical center in Tel Aviv. In exchange, Israel released 90 Palestinian prisoners.

"Our new administration has accomplished all of this in the Middle East in less than three months. Without being president, we have accomplished more... than they accomplished in four years as president,"  Trump added.

After the deal was signed, a senior Biden administration official said that the cooperation between the Trump and Biden teams in negotiating the deal was "almost unprecedented". This was made possible by a rare convergence of interests between the irreconcilable rivals.

During the same speech, Trump again promised to end the war in Ukraine, stop the chaos in the Middle East, and prevent World War III.

We also recently wrote that the belief among bookmakers that Trump will be able to end the war in Ukraine in 90 days has dropped from 50% to 29% in two months.
