U.S. approve contract for F-16 maintenance in Ukraine
The U.S. Department of State has approved the sale of F-16 aircraft maintenance services to Ukraine for $266.4 million. The contract provides for the supply of equipment, services and training to support the operation of F-16 aircraft.
This was reported by the Security Cooperation Agency of the US Department of Defense.
F-16 Maintenance contract — what’s known
The key provisions include:
- JMPS mission planning system;
- AN/PYQ-10 (SKL) key loading devices;
- Engine Component Improvement Program (CIP);
- Spare parts, consumables, and accessories;
- Equipment repair and return services;
- Weapon system software;
- Personnel training and technical support.
The agreement is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities against current and future threats. The statement notes that these measures are in line with US foreign policy interests, in particular, improving the security of partners in Europe.
Sabena (Belgium), Lockheed Martin Aeronautics (USA) and Pratt and Whitney (USA) will fulfill the contract. The agreement does not require the presence of additional American specialists in Ukraine and will not affect the defense capabilities of the United States.
The U.S. State Department emphasized that the contract will significantly increase Ukraine's defense capabilities, although it will not change the overall military balance in the region. Thanks to this decision, Ukraine will be able to more effectively counter threats and strengthen its air defense.
As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently announced the number of enemy air targets shot down in Ukraine thanks to the F-16.
It also became known that a second batch of F-16s had arrived in Ukraine from Denmark.
