How many Ukrainian POWs were killed by Russia in 2024

In 2024, the Russian military executed 109 Ukrainian prisoners of war, and these are only the figures that have been officially confirmed. At the same time, there has been no effective response from the international community to these war crimes.
This was stated by the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights Dmytro Lubinets during the telethon.

"Unfortunately, we have officially documented an increasing number of violations of the rights of Ukrainian prisoners of war, including brutal point-blank executions. In 2024 alone, we have been able to officially confirm that Russian forces executed 109 Ukrainian POWs. To put this in perspective, in previous years, a total of 177 cases were documented, making it clear that such atrocities have become far less frequent in 2024," Lubinets said.
As he noted, intelligence and law enforcement agencies have repeatedly reported frequent cases of violations of prisoners of war rights by Russians.
"Unfortunately, I could not go out and publicly show these examples of cynical violations of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions. When we were able to record it, we did so," added the Verkhovna Rada Commissioner for Human Rights.
In addition, Lubinets informed that there was no effective response from the international community to these war crimes.
As a reminder, Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets recently said that Russia denies medical care to Ukrainian prisoners of war. Moreover, the Kremlin is depriving the detained Ukrainians of the right to communicate with their families and using torture.
