Rheinmetall and ICEYE provide the AFU with satellite imagery

Rheinmetall and ICEYE, a manufacturer of satellite search and rescue systems, plan to provide Ukraine with even more satellite imagery on behalf of the German government. The cooperation between Rheinmetall and ICEYE has already yielded some results.

Starting in early October 2024, Ukraine will receive new satellite imagery from ICEYE satellites with synthetic aperture radar (SAR) as part of the cooperation between Rheinmetall and ICEYE. This will complement further intelligence data obtained from other sensors and provide a basis for decision-making and operational planning by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"To meet Ukraine's urgent needs for satellite reconnaissance capabilities, SAR Rheinmetall and Ukraine, with the support of the German government, have signed a contract. The agreement further increases the amount of SAR data and other support that Ukraine has received from ICEYE during the war," the statement reads.
The cooperation provides for the allocation of satellite capacity and access to the satellite constellation, which allows the use of the capabilities of the entire ICEYE satellite fleet. Since 2018, ICEYE has launched 38 satellites for use by ICEYE and its customers.
In June 2024, the Düsseldorf-based technology group announced its participation in the world's largest fleet of radar reconnaissance satellites. In September 2024, Rheinmetall and ICEYE further strengthened their cooperation. As part of this, Rheinmetall received exclusive rights to sell SAR (synthetic aperture radar) satellites to military and government end users in the German and Hungarian markets.
As a reminder, the German concern Rheinmetall plans to build four munition production plants in Ukraine. One plant has already been launched, and the Lynx infantry fighting vehicle is to be produced by the end of the year.
Novyny.LIVE also reported that Rheinmetall has handed over 20 more Marder 1A3 infantry fighting vehicles to Ukraine, bringing the total to about 200 BMPs through direct deliveries or ring exchanges.
