On Wednesday, November 20, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a law depriving traitors and collaborators of state awards. From now on, people who contributed to Russian aggression will no longer be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine.

This was reported by MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak in his Telegram.

Zhelezniak said that during the meeting, the Verkhovna Rada voted in favor of draft law No. 11410, which provides for the deprivation of state awards to traitors of Ukraine. A total of 283 MPs voted in favor of the bill.

The bill itself proposes to deprive of state awards persons who popularize or promote the aggressor state and its authorities, representatives of the aggressor state authorities and their actions that create a positive image of the aggressor state, justify or recognize the occupation of the territory of Ukraine as legitimate.

At the same time, it is currently possible to deprive a person of state awards only if he or she is convicted of a serious crime. This is evidenced by the current legislation of our country.

Instead, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy proposes that state awards should also be deprived on the basis of a decision of the National Security and Defense Council to apply special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) enacted by a decree of the head of state, and not just upon a guilty verdict.

As a reminder, today the Verkhovna Rada also voted to liquidate the MSEC in Ukraine. In the future, the functions will be performed by expert commissions, and the system will be digitized.

On November 19, the Rada passed the law on the state budget for 2025. In the second reading, the document was supported by 257 MPs.
