Putin is not the one he was before — Sikorski’s advice to Trump
Putin is unlikely to meet with Trump quickly. The new US administration should take into account the fact that the Russian dictator is now completely different than he was before.
It was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Radoslaw Sikorski, at the Ukrainian Breakfast in Davos on Thursday, January 23.
Sikorski gave advice to the new US administration
According to the Polish Minister, Putin is not the same as Trump knew him during his first presidency. He added that one should be skeptical about the idea of an early summit with the President of the Russian Federation. Sikorski also emphasized that Poland had repeatedly warned the West about Putin, but it was not always listened to.
"The President of the United States is the leader of the free world. Vladimir Putin is a pariah and a war criminal accused of abducting Ukrainian children. I would suggest that Putin deserves this summit meeting, and if he gets it ahead of schedule, it will raise his status," Sikorski noted.
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation is the main organizer of the Ukrainian Breakfast in Davos.
As a reminder, the President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, stated that the partners should increase pressure on Putin. He is convinced that it is necessary to make the Russian dictator want to sit down at the negotiating table.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst noted that the timing of the end of the war in Ukraine depends on how quickly all NATO members make the contributions they have promised. According to Ernst, Ukraine will not be able to cope with all its needs on its own.
