Russian President Vladimir Putin wants a ceasefire in the war against Ukraine. The dictator is also interested in a further prisoner exchange.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said this, as Haber7 reports.

Putin wants a ceasefire

After meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in Russia, Erdoğan said that he wants a ceasefire.

"As in my meeting with Ukrainian President Mr. Zelenskyy in America, we saw that Mr. Putin also wants a permanent ceasefire. Our country's Ministers of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan Bey and Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov confirmed this during their meetings in Istanbul," Erdoğan said.

He added that apart from the issues of restoring the Black Sea grain corridor and demining, the Russian delegation and Putin himself are interested in further prisoner exchanges.

"We are now closely monitoring the steps regarding these prisoner exchanges. We will continue to do everything possible to resolve the issues diplomatically. We seek to start peace talks between the two countries as soon as possible and pave the way for a favorable outcome," the Turkish President emphasized.

Previously, the Russian dictator should consider the proposal of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan regarding the grain corridor in the Black Sea.

And during his speech at the 79th UN General Assembly, Erdoğan stated that Turkey stands for peace in which the war will end through diplomacy and on the basis of the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
