Moscow's defeat — Zelenskyy on stopping gas transit
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has spoken out about stopping the transit of Russian gas. He emphasized that this is one of Moscow's biggest defeats.
The head of state wrote about this in Telegram on Wednesday, January 1.
Stopping the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine
Zelenskyy noted that when Vladimir Putin was given power in Russia, the annual gas pumping through Ukraine was more than 130 billion cubic meters. As of today, transit is zero.
"This is one of Moscow's biggest defeats. Turning energy into a weapon and cynical energy blackmail of partners is what deprived Russia of its most attractive and geographically accessible market," Zelenskyy emphasized.
According to him, given the circumstances, the vast majority of European countries have successfully adapted to such changes. The Ukrainian leader noted that the current common task is to support Moldova in its energy transformation. In addition, they have to withstand the "hysteria" of some European politicians who prefer having schemes with Moscow.
"We also hope to increase the supply of American gas to Europe, as President Trump has already mentioned. Cooperation and maximum offers from partners in the market will make it possible to make prices more comfortable," the Head of State said.
Zelenskyy noted that the more gas is supplied to the market from true European partners, the sooner it will be possible to overcome the recent negative consequences of energy dependence on Russia.
As a reminder, on the morning of January 1, Ukraine stopped transporting Russian gas through its territory.
Later, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico reacted to this decision, saying that it would have consequences for European gas.
