Representatives of Israel, Hamas, the United States, and Qatar officially signed the hostage release and ceasefire deal in Gaza. The signing took place in Doha, where the negotiations took place.

The information was confirmed by the office of the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, The Jerusalem Post, and The Times of Israel write.

According to the statement, Netanyahu was informed of the deal and called the Security Cabinet Meeting on Friday to vote on the deal.

However, the Prime Minister’s spokesman also said that the full Cabinet meeting would not take place until Saturday evening, explaining that opponents of the deal need 24 hours to file their petition with the Supreme Court, and the meeting on Friday afternoon would not give them enough time to do so.

The Times of Israel writes that while the security cabinet is waiting for the Israeli negotiating team to return home from Doha (the capital of Qatar), it remains unclear why the Security Cabinet and the full Cabinet cannot be convened by Friday evening.

Thus, holding a full Cabinet Meeting on Saturday means that the 24-hour grace period for submitting the petition will not end until Sunday evening. It means that the deal to begin the ceasefire and release the hostages will come into force a day later, on Monday, rather than as planned on Sunday. This means that the first three hostages, who were supposed to be released on Sunday, will have to wait another day.

As a reminder, the other day, the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in his farewell address that Hamas had managed to recruit almost as many new fighters as Israel killed during its offensive on Gaza. He added that since the terrorists remain in power in the territory, this could complicate plans for post-war governance of the enclave.
