Massive attack — Ukrenergo names facility targeted by Russia
During the latest massive attack, Russia targeted the network infrastructure that provides export-import operations between Ukraine and European countries. The occupiers wanted to reduce the import of electricity.
This was announced by Yuriy Boyko, Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ukraine, member of the Supervisory Board of Ukrenergo, at a briefing on Monday, December 16.
Russia's insidious plan
According to Boyko, on December 13, the goal of the Russian occupiers was to make it as difficult as possible to import electricity or even disconnect Ukraine's energy system from the European one. Russia tried to target facilities involved in energy transmission between the systems of Ukraine and the EU.
"In order to reduce the involvement of import as much as possible, and ideally to achieve the disconnection of the unified system of Ukraine from the energy system of Europe," he said.
As a reminder, on December 13, Russia launched a massive missile attack on energy facilities in Ukraine. At that time, 50% of consumers in the Ternopil region were without power due to Russian shelling. Power lines and DTEK thermal power plants were also damaged.
