Musk has been in regular contact with Putin since 2022 — media
American businessman Elon Musk regularly communicates with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This has been going on since the end of 2022.
The Wall Street Journal writes about it.
Musk's conversations with Putin
Musk and Putin reportedly discuss personal topics, business, and geopolitical tensions. Two U.S. officials revealed that at one point, Putin asked Musk to avoid activating his Starlink terminals over Taiwan, as a "favor" to Chinese leader Xi Jinping.
The report mentions that Musk's contacts with the Kremlin are considered a major secret in the U.S. government — several White House officials stated they "know nothing about it". Last week, during his campaign tour in Pennsylvania, Musk spoke of the importance of government transparency and mentioned his access to classified information.
"I have top-secret clearance, but I have to say... The reason they keep it secret is that it's really boring," Musk commented.
Currently, the government is highly dependent on Musk's technology, as he launches critical national security satellites and owns a company NASA relies on to transport astronauts. However, U.S. authorities are uneasy about the billionaire’s contacts with the Kremlin.
Russia claims that Putin had a single phone call with Musk, during which they supposedly discussed space and future technologies.
As a reminder, Musk decided to organize a lottery among Republicans and plans to pay one million daily to a random signer of his petition on freedom of speech and gun rights.
Musk also supported Donald Trump' s candidacy for the US presidency.
