Critical situation with medical care for captured by Russia
Russia refuses to provide medical care for Ukrainian prisoners of war. The Kremlin also deprives detained Ukrainians of the right to contact their families and uses torture.
Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets stated this during the Tenth Human Rights Conference "Reclaiming Human Rights — Preserving Democracy" on Thursday, December 5, as Novyny.LIVE reports.
The situation with medical care for prisoners of war in the Russian Federation is critical
Lubinets emphasized that the Russian authorities refuse to provide medical care for Ukrainian prisoners of war, deny the right to contact their families, and use torture. He emphasized that the international community actually approves of such actions by the silence, because "instead of the Geneva Conventions, Moscow rules are in effect".
The Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner noted the courage of Ukrainian heroes and heroines, who remain loyal to their country and democratic values, even in enemy captivity.
"Our heroes and heroines demonstrate courage and loyalty to the country and the principles of democracy, even in enemy captivity," Lubinets said.
He also presented a book which contains 15 stories of Ukrainian prisoners of war who survived Russian captivity or died, demonstrating resilience in the face of the aggressor.
As a reminder, Dmytro Lubinets reported that more than 16,000 Ukrainian civilians are in Russian captivity. Ukraine is working on their homecoming.
In addition, the Commissioner for Human Rights stated that Ukraine has not overcome the problem of forced mobilization of citizens. A new program was launched with the organization of round-table discussions in various regions for addressing this issue.
