Ukraine is convening a Contact Group to discuss the issue of ending the war. These are key European partners. This idea was supported by a candidate for Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz.

This was announced by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as "Ukrinform" reports on Monday, December 9.

Merz noted that there should be no separate peace initiatives from Europe in the coming months. According to him, a pan-European opinion is needed.

"This is not just about the European Union. I have a offer to create a Contact Group of Germany, France, Poland, the UK — four major European countries and NATO — so that they can exchange views and thus develop a common vision together with the United States. I think that you and I should discuss how you react to such an idea," he said.

Zelenskyy said that it had already been organized. They want to hold a meeting in December to coordinate and develop a common position. According to him, the final list of participants is still being formed, but these are countries that have long-range capabilities and make the largest investments in Ukrainian weapons production.

"I support your proposal to create a Contact Group. To be honest, we have already organized it. The countries you named already are in it, we are also counting on Denmark as a representative of the Nordic group. We are counting on all of them, but namely Denmark could represent the Nordic team. We want to hold such a meeting in December. You see, we already have many similar opinions," the Ukrainian leader added.

It should be recalled that Zelenskyy plans to call the US President Joe Biden to discuss the issue of inviting Ukraine to NATO.

In addition, on December 9, the Head of State claimed that the occupiers used almost 500 guided aerial bombs, more than 400 drones, and almost 20 missiles against Ukraine over the past week.
