The House of Commons of Canada has approved the allocation of 764 million Canadian dollars (about 587 million US dollars) to support Ukraine. These funds are part of a large-scale budget that allows the Canadian government to spend an additional 21 billion Canadian dollars on various needs, including national defense.

This was reported by an Ukrinform correspondent.

What will be included in Canada's aid package for Ukraine

Canadian Defense Minister Bill Blair noted that the allocated funds will be used for:

  • ammunition;
  • training of the Ukrainian military;
  • other critical means to ensure Ukraine's victory.

The document also provides 400 million Canadian dollars (about 307 million US dollars) for financial support to Ukraine through a special IMF account.

Separately, 45 million Canadian dollars (about 35 million US dollars) are allocated for humanitarian demining and strengthening Ukraine's cyber security.

The opposition Conservative Party, which is calling for the government's resignation, voted against the additional spending. Nevertheless, the House of Commons approved the budget increase on the last day allowed by law. The final decision should be made by the Canadian Senate in the near future.

Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Canada has already provided $5.4 billion in budgetary assistance to Ukraine. This is the highest per capita figure in the world.

As a reminder, Canada has banned hundreds of firearms that it wants to transfer to Ukraine.

Recently, the Minister of Defense of Canada also answered where the NASAMS air defense systems for Ukraine, which were funded by the country, are now.
