According to the podcaster, he provided Volodymyr Zelenskyy with an opportunity to demonstrate to both Trump and Putin his willingness to engage in negotiations. However, as Friedman recounts, the Ukrainian leader instead "began swearing at Putin," displaying open disrespect for the Kremlin dictator.

"This is quite understandable, but not directly productive for negotiations. To clarify, I have hosted many conversations that have been intensely critical of Vladimir Putin, from Sergei Plokhiy to Stephen Kotkin, but this conversation is with a world leader speaking about another world leader, during a historic opportunity for peace. Crude words of disrespect, while powerful, may harm the negotiations,"  said Friedman.

As a reminder, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeatedly used strong language during an interview with American podcaster Lex Friedman. The expert explained that the head of state probably said this to "make himself heard".

On social media, Lex Friedman was criticized for the questions he asked the Ukrainian leader. For example, an American podcaster asked if Ukrainians could "just forgive Russia".
