President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has dismissed Ambassador to Germany Oleksiy Makeiev. He had been in this position since September 2022.

This was reported by Suspilne on Thursday, December 26.

Dismissal of Makeiev as Ukraine's ambassador to Germany

Recently, Bild reported that the official reason for Makeiev's dismissal was the planned rotation of diplomats, but the situation may be different.

According to media reports, the ambassador's work was publicly criticized by his predecessor, Andrii Melnyk. He held the post for seven years.

"Diplomatic circles say that Melnyk did not restrain his criticism behind the scenes. It is not yet clear whether this influenced the decision to dismiss Makeev under the new Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrii Sybiga," the statement reads.

It is known that the current Ukrainian ambassador to Israel, Yevhen Korniichuk, may become the successor.

As a reminder, on December 21, Zelenskyy dismissed Ukrainian ambassadors to a number of countries, including China, Japan, Slovenia, Lithuania, Kenya, Rwanda, and Ukraine's representatives to the UN.

Earlier, Pavlo Tkachuk, the head of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachny National Army Academy, was dismissed.
