The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has supported a draft law that prohibits the use of the Russian language during school breaks. But there were several comments to the document.

The head of the Ministry of Education and Science, Oksen Lisovyi, said this during Q&A session on Friday, October 11, as the web-portal "Ukrainian News" reports.

The opinion of the Ministry of Education regarding the draft law on banning Russian language during breaks

Lisovyi noted that the Ministry supported the draft law, which was initiated by deputy Nataliya Pipa, with some remarks.

At the same time, he emphasized the importance of the equal development of the languages of national minorities, especially the languages of the member states of the European Union.

However, the Minister clearly indicated that the ban on the use of the Russian language is justified, as it is used by the aggressor country as a tool of influence. He noted that language can become a weapon to justify aggression, therefore its limitation in the educational process is an urgent issue.

"We understand that language is used as a weapon, as a prerequisite for aggression," Lisovyi stressed.

Previously, the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergey Lavrov, said that the peace negotiations should include the issue of the "rights of the Russian-speaking population" in Ukraine.

And the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk, Ruslan Martsinkiv, informed that language inspectors will start working in the city to prevent the spread of the Russian language.
