Reconstruction of Ukraine after the war — Trump named the terms
The newly elected US President Donald Trump named the terms for the complete reconstruction of Ukrainian cities destroyed by Russian aggression. He said that this will take a century.
Trump said this during a speech to reporters on Monday, December 16.
What Trump said about the reconstruction of Ukraine
In his opinion, the situation that developed after the full-scale Russian invasion is terrible and requires enormous resources for restoration.
"This is a 100-year reconstruction, and you can never return everything to the way it was. What a pity! This should not have happened. If I were President, this war would not have happened," Trump said.
He also noted that when he was President, Russia did not dare to take such actions, and in general, there were supposedly no major conflicts in the world.
What are Ukraine's reconstruction needs
According to the World Bank, as of spring 2023, Ukraine's needs for the reconstruction of destroyed infrastructure are about $411 billion. This is significantly more than the previous estimate of $349 billion, announced in September 2022.
The amount of damage is growing every month due to new Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, in particular on residential buildings, energy facilities and roads.
What are the international initiatives for the reconstruction of Ukraine
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced the holding of the "Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine", which is scheduled for July 10-11, 2025 in Rome. The event should be an important stage in attracting international support for the reconstruction of Ukraine.
It should be recalled that Trump was recognized as the person of the year according to TIME magazine. The publication noted his political revival.
In addition, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukrainians have high hopes for Trump, who has promised to end the war.
