The North Atlantic Alliance has confirmed for the first time that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) has provided Russia with its military for the war against Ukraine. These fighters are already in the Kursk region.

This was stated by the Secretary General of the Alliance, Mark Rutte, after a meeting of the North Atlantic Council on Monday, October 28, as AP reports.

North Korea sent troops to Russia

According to Rutte, the South Korean delegation provided comprehensive evidence of the presence of North Korean troops in the combat zone.

"North Korean troops are involved in the Kursk region, which indicates in itself a significant escalation of the war. This is another gap in NATO security documents," the Secretary General claimed.

NATO is convinced that the involvement of thousands of North Korean soldiers in the largest conflict in Europe since World War II will increase pressure on the tired and overstretched Ukrainian army.

In addition, this will increase geopolitical tensions on the Korean Peninsula and in the wider Indo-Pacific region, including Japan and Australia.

As a reminder, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that in the coming days, soldiers from North Korea may appear on the battlefield against Ukraine.

The NYT also wrote that thousands of North Korean soldiers have already arrived in Russia. They are expected to support the invaders during a counteroffensive in the Kursk region.
