Ukraine is planning to resume air travel
By the end of January 2025, Ukraine plans to resume air service at either Lviv or Boryspil airports. Aircraft flights will require insurance coverage worth at least $750 million.
Crispin Ellison, senior partner at Marsh McLennan, said this at the Kyiv International Economic Forum.
When Ukraine may open air traffic
Ellison said that perhaps in January 2025, five or six airlines could resume flights from Ukraine. According to him, if we consider the technical side, it is easier to resume flights from Lviv Airport, as it is only a seven-minute flight to Poland. At the same time, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in favor of opening Boryspil Airport.
"I keep saying that Lviv is much safer than Tel Aviv. People don't like it when I say that, but I do. I think if we are lucky, in January we will have five or six airlines that want to fly from Ukraine," he said.
At the same time, Ellison added that flights of passenger Airbus-320s, Boeing-737s, and smaller aircraft will require insurance coverage of at least $750 million. However, the final decision will be made by the President's Office, taking into account the security situation and air defense.
As a reminder, Lviv Mayor Andrii Sadovyi recently answered the question of whether Lviv should open an airport during the war. He believes that at least one airport in Ukraine should be open.
