Russia is preparing for a large-scale transfer of military equipment and weapons from Syria to Libya. The naval base in the Syrian city of Tartus is awaiting the arrival of Russian ships that are planned to be used to evacuate troops from the country.

This was reported by the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine (DIU) on Friday, January 3.

According to the DIU, large amphibious assault ships Ivan Gren and Oleksandr Otrakovskyi, as well as the dry cargo ship Sparta, are due to arrive at the port of Tartus on January 5.

"Aboard the "Otrakovsky" is the Chief of Staff of the 121st Landing Ship Brigade of the aggressor state's fleet, Captain 1st Rank Yuriy Davityan," the statement said.

In addition, on January 8, the universal cargo ship Sparta II and the tanker Ivan Skobelev, which are currently moving through the Strait of Gibraltar, are planning to call at Tartus. Sparta and Sparta II will be used to transport military equipment to Libya.

Earlier, we wrote that Russia sent the cargo ship Sparta to export weapons, equipment and military personnel from Syria, but it broke down while traveling on the high seas.

And Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said that Russia had fulfilled its tasks in Syria, noting that the main goal was to "prevent the creation of terrorist entities".
